Redactor
At 27BITS we use our own feature-rich content management system (CMS), called Redactor. This enables clients to manage their own website without the need to request (or pay for) ongoing updates to their content. Redactor, combined with the correct templates, will provide the client with a full-featured, fully accessible and standards-compliant website.
Overview Of Redactor Features
The Redactor system provides ease-of-use for the non-technical user. Its flexibility has enabled it to be used with SMEs, large companies (inc. FTSE 100), educational establishments and government-funded websites.
Page management
- Create new pages using custom-built templates.
- Use a full-featured WYSIWYG HTML editor in order to enter your content, pictures, files, links, anchors, etc. No HTML knowledge is required.
- Edit multiple content areas within each page.
- Arrange all of your pages within your website's navigation.
- Cross-sell and reference pages with quick links.
- Attach related files and documents to your pages.
- Create lists of pages or documents as and when you need them. These can be used to display your latest news or events or to create a document library, for example. Pages can be automatically moved to an archive after a certain amount of time to keep your site in order (eg. useful for a news archive or listing past events).
- Make use of news tickers, RSS feeds, site searches, auto-updating sitemap and many other features.
- Full control over search engine data to enable higher rankings (including URL rewriting for search engine friendly page names).
- Specify page language and create multi-lingual websites.
- Limit access to website pages to certain types of user in order to create a members' area or company extranet.
- Force pages to use SSL where required.
- Create client-specific pages to personalise your site.
- Set pages to auto-publish at a certain time in the future. Remove pages automatically from your website by setting a removal time.
- See which member of staff has made the most recent changes to a page and when they were made.
- Create, edit and delete all the pages that you need.
File management
- Upload images, documents, flash files, audio, video etc, for use on your website.
- Upload or auto-generate thumbnail images for your files.
- Attach files to specific page lists in order to create image galleries, slideshows and searchable document libraries.
- Drop file links into pages.
- Auto-publish and auto-remove files from your website.
- Restrict access to files based on the type of user that is logged in to your website.
User management
- Create groups of users within your system. Allow certain users to access certain areas of your website.
- Capture user details then export them to a spreadsheet for use elsewhere.
- Allow multiple users to log-in to the CMS and make changes to your website.
Plug-in architecture
- Redactor aims to provide functionality required by the majority of websites. However, it also allows for bespoke modules to be developed and slotted in should your website require any custom functionality (for example, online shopping, hotel room reservation functionality, online questionnaires, mapping solutions, etc).
Technical note
Redactor is coded in C#, runs on the .NET 2.0 framework and stores all of its data in a Microsoft SQL Server database.
